Ubisoft released Open Season for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, a time when the handheld was still home to a wide variety of movie tie-ins. This one is based on the animated film of the same name, placing you directly into its forest setting. It arrived late in the GBA's life, sitting alongside many other licensed adventures that tried to capture a film's story in a portable format.

You primarily control Boog, a domesticated grizzly bear, and sometimes his deer friend Elliot. The main goal is to rescue your animal pals from the hunters who have invaded the forest. Gameplay involves moving through side-scrolling levels, using a simple melee attack to swat at enemies like squirrels and park rangers. You also collect acorns scattered throughout the stages; these are the primary collectible used to progress. The pacing is straightforward, with levels that are generally short and not overly difficult, making it accessible for younger players. It feels like a simple, uncomplicated romp through a cartoon world.
