You control Boog, a domesticated grizzly bear, and Elliot, a scrawny one antlered mule deer. The main goal is to survive in the wilderness and reclaim your home turf from a group of aggressive hunters. You explore levels screen by screen, switching between the two characters to use their unique abilities; Boog smashes obstacles and fights with brute force, while Elliot uses his speed and antler attacks to reach higher areas. You collect acorns and other items, solve simple environmental puzzles, and battle hunters and forest creatures. The pacing is straightforward, with a moderate difficulty that occasionally spikes during some of the hunter encounters. Playing it feels like a brisk trek through a cartoon forest, where swapping between the bear and the deer keeps the simple exploration from getting stale.
