Oddworld Adventures 2 on Game Boy Color is one of those weird little gems that somehow makes a 2D platformer feel fresh even now. You play as Abe, this scrawny blue guy who’s way more expressive than he has any right to be on a tiny GBC screen—wincing when he gets hurt, nervously looking around before jumps. The levels are packed with these bizarre creatures, some you can possess (which is as fun as it sounds), others that’ll just straight-up eat you if you’re not careful.
What really sticks with me is how much personality they crammed into it. The puzzles are simple but satisfying—timing jumps, sneaking past sleeping enemies, figuring out which weirdo to mind-control next. And yeah, the graphics are surprisingly vibrant for a Game Boy Color title, all muddy greens and eerie purples that sell the whole "alien factory run by idiots" vibe.
It’s short, but that’s part of the charm—you’ll probably get stuck on a few screens, then suddenly it’s 2 AM and you’re whispering "just one more try" to yourself. Definitely a cult classic for a reason.
