Noddy and the Birthday Party is one of those weird little Game Boy Color games you stumble across and think, "Wait, this exists?" It's based on the old British children's books, so you're basically running around as this little wooden boy doing party prep—collecting balloons, delivering invitations, that sort of thing.
The controls are simple (it's clearly meant for kids), but there's something oddly charming about how janky the animations are. Noddy's head bobs like a bobblehead when he walks, and the colors are aggressively bright, even for a GBC game. I played the English version, but honestly, the French or German options might've been funnier—imagine Noddy yelling "SACRE BLEU" when he bumps into a tree.
Not gonna lie, it's not exactly a hidden gem, but if you're into weird retro oddities or just want to see what early 2000s licensed games looked like, it's a weirdly specific time capsule. Also, the cake-decorating minigame is weirdly stressful for something aimed at six-year-olds.
