About No Fear
No Fear for the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, a time when the handheld was full of platformers and licensed titles. It was developed by Bit Managers and published by Titus, a name I recognized from other games of that era. This one stood out for its theme, taking the aggressive downhill mountain biking from the console versions and squeezing it onto the small screen.
You control a rider barreling down treacherous mountain trails. The main goal is simply to survive each course, navigating sharp turns, massive jumps, and obstacles like rocks and trees. The gameplay is built on a few key mechanics: you have a boost button for bursts of speed, a brake for controlling your descent, and you must constantly adjust your rider's balance in the air for a safe landing. The pace is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving; one mistimed landing sends you tumbling. It feels like a constant, tense fight against the terrain and your own momentum.
