About Nicktoons Racing
Nicktoons Racing came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Tantalus Interactive. It was one of many licensed games on the platform, a kart racer that brought together characters from different Nickelodeon cartoons like Rugrats, Spongebob Squarepants, and The Wild Thornberries.
You pick a character and race them through tracks based on the shows, trying to finish first against the computer. The main objective is to win cups in the championship mode. Signature mechanics include using items you pick up from boxes on the track to attack other racers or boost your own speed, and performing a turbo start by hitting the accelerator at the right moment when the light turns green. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike on later tracks where the computer opponents become more aggressive. It feels like a straightforward, portable kart game that captures the look of the cartoons.
