About Next Generation Tennis
Next Generation Tennis came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by MTO and published by Ubisoft. It was part of a wave of sports titles trying to capture the feel of arcade competition on the handheld. You pick a character and jump into matches that move quickly, aiming to outplay your opponent across various courts.
You control a tennis player from an isometric view, moving them around the court to hit forehands and backhands. The main goal is to win tournaments by defeating a series of computer-controlled opponents. Key mechanics include building up a power meter for special shots and using different shot types like lobs and slices to control the rally. The game can be challenging as the AI reads your moves, forcing you to mix up your strategy. It feels responsive and fast, making each point a quick test of reflexes.
