I picked up Need for Speed: Most Wanted for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a time when racing games on handhelds were often simpler affairs. This one was developed by EA Canada, and it tried to bring a piece of the console street racing vibe to the small screen. You control a street racer trying to climb the ranks in a city full of rivals. The main goal is to work your way up the "Blacklist," a lineup of the top racers you need to defeat one by one. You earn respect by winning standard circuit and sprint races, but the signature events are the police pursuits. Getting a heat level from the cops triggers a chase where you have to evade them or wreck their cars to escape. You also use nitrous boosts for sudden bursts of speed on straights. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty spikes noticeably when you face higher ranked Blacklist members or aggressive police roadblocks. It feels like a tense, compact racing challenge that fits in your pocket.
