About Nhl 2002
NHL 2002 for the Game Boy Advance came out in 2001 from EA Sports. It was part of that first wave of sports titles trying to capture the console experience on a handheld. You got a full NHL season and team roster in your pocket, which felt like a decent step up from what was possible on older handhelds.
You control a five man hockey team, skating up and down the ice to score goals. The main objective is to win games, either in single matches or by playing through a full season. Signature mechanics include the one timer shot, which requires precise timing to execute, and the ability to make big hits along the boards to separate opponents from the puck. The game moves at a fast pace, and the difficulty can spike, especially when the computer decides to apply relentless offensive pressure. It feels like a simplified but surprisingly complete hockey game that fits in the palm of your hand.
