About Nhl 2000
NHL 2000 came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, published by EA Sports. It was one of the few hockey titles you could carry in your pocket during that era, a time when handheld sports games were often simpler than their console counterparts. You got a condensed version of hockey, fitting the small screen and limited hardware.
You control a five man hockey team, skating up and down the ice in a side view. The main goal is to outscore your opponent by shooting the puck into the net. Signature mechanics include one timer passes for quick shots and a simple deke move to get around defenders. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike sharply against the computer, especially on higher settings. It feels like a fast, sometimes frantic, game of digital shinny.
