Mummy, The Game

Okay, so The Mummy Returns on Game Boy Color is one of those licensed games that actually tries something different. You pick between playing as Rick O’Connell (the hero) or Imhotep (the mummy), and their campaigns feel totally separate—like two games in one. Rick’s levels are all about whipping bad guys with your pistol and rescuing your kid, while Imhotep’s side lets you summon scarabs and throw fireballs like the ancient evil badass you are.
It’s janky in that classic early 2000s handheld way—hit detection can be weird, and some jumps feel like luck—but the vibe is spot-on. The music’s got that eerie Egyptian thing going, and the pixel art does a shockingly good job of capturing the movie’s aesthetic. If you’re into cheesy action or just love the franchise, it’s a surprisingly fun time. Just don’t expect it to play like a modern game.
