Okay, so The Mummy Returns on Game Boy Color is basically two games in one—you either play as Imhotep, wrecking everything as an ancient evil mummy, or as Rick O’Connell trying to stop him. Imhotep’s side is all dark magic and summoning undead minions, while Rick’s got guns, traps, and a whole lot of running around tombs.
It’s janky in that classic GBC way—some hit detection is questionable, and the platforming can be brutal—but there’s something weirdly fun about it. Imhotep’s spells feel overpowered (in a good way), and Rick’s levels have this Indiana Jones vibe where you’re dodging traps and shooting mummies. The sprite work’s actually pretty solid for the hardware, too.
Not gonna lie, it’s not the deepest game, but if you’re into licensed 2000s movie tie-ins with a weirdly ambitious split-campaign thing, this one’s a decent time.
