About Mugenborg (j)(polla)
Mugenborg (J)(Polla) is a Japan-only release for the Game Boy Advance from 2004, developed by Polla. It arrived late in the system's life, a time when developers were still finding new ways to use the hardware. You control a lone adventurer exploring a vast, interconnected fortress. Your main goal is to delve deep into the dungeon, fighting monsters and gathering keys to unlock new areas.
Movement is screen by screen; you clear one room of enemies before proceeding to the next. Combat is straightforward, using a sword for close attacks and a bow for hitting distant foes or switches. The game's pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with limited health restoration between save points. Navigating the labyrinthine corridors and managing your resources creates a tense, methodical experience.
