I first played Mr Nutz on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was published by Ocean Software, and it felt like a solid entry in the platformer lineup for the handheld. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it had a certain charm that fit right in with what was available at the time.
You control a red squirrel named Mr Nutz, navigating through levels screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped friend, which involves running, jumping, and bouncing on enemies to defeat them. You collect nuts scattered throughout the stages, and you can also find power ups that grant you temporary abilities, like throwing projectiles. The pacing is generally brisk, though some later levels can be quite challenging with their enemy placement and platforming sequences. Playing it feels like a straightforward, energetic dash through a colorful world.
