Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Midway Games. It was one of the many fighting games on the handheld, arriving at a time when players expected solid ports of arcade hits they could take anywhere. This version tried to pack a console-like experience into the small cartridge.

You control a fighter from the Mortal Kombat roster, moving them through a series of one-on-one battles. The main goal is to win the tournament by defeating every opponent you face, including sub-bosses and the final enemy. Signature mechanics include performing special moves with precise directional inputs and button combinations, and the series' trademark Fatalities that let you finish off a defeated foe in a gruesome way. The game also incorporates a combo system where you can chain attacks together for more damage. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike sharply, especially against the computer-controlled fighters later on. It feels responsive and aggressive in your hands, a direct translation of the violent arcade fights to a portable screen.
