Moorhen 3: The Chicken Chase! is one of those weird little GBA gems that shouldn’t work but totally does. You play as this determined moorhen (basically a funky waterbird) trying to outrun a grumpy farmer who’s dead set on turning your chicken pals into dinner. The pixel art’s got that perfect early 2000s charm—bright colors, goofy animations, and chickens that somehow look both panicked and heroic.

At first, it feels like a simple dash-and-dodge game, but then you realize you can recruit other birds to help, which turns the chaos up to 11. One wrong move and you’re face-first in a hay bale while the farmer cackles in the background. The controls are tight, though, and once you get the rhythm down, pulling off a perfect escape feels amazing. Just don’t get too cocky—that tractor comes out of nowhere.

It’s the kind of game you start playing for five minutes and suddenly realize an hour’s gone by. If you miss when handheld games were small, silly, and surprisingly deep, this one’s a winner.
