Montezuma’s Return! on Game Boy Color is one of those weird little platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as this explorer dude jumping through trap-filled Aztec ruins—spikes, crumbling floors, the usual death traps. The controls are a bit stiff at first, but once you get the hang of the timing, it’s oddly satisfying to nail those jumps.
What surprised me was how much personality it has for a GBC game. The music’s got this bouncy, adventurous vibe, and the levels actually feel like ancient temples instead of just generic platforms. Some of the later stages get brutal, though—expect a lot of trial and error.
If you’re into retro platformers with a bit of jank, this one’s a fun time-waster. Just don’t throw your Game Boy across the room when the spikes get you for the tenth time.
