Monsters Inc. on GBC is one of those licensed games that actually gets it right—surprisingly fun for a movie tie-in. You play as Mike and Sulley, running around Monstropolis collecting screams by solving little puzzles and dodging obstacles. The art style nails the movie’s vibe, even on the tiny Game Boy Color screen, and the controls are simple but tight.
At first, I thought it’d just be a basic platformer, but there’s some clever stuff here—like figuring out how to scare kids without waking them up or timing jumps between conveyor belts of doors. It’s not super hard, but some of the later levels actually made me stop and think for a second. And yeah, the nostalgia hits hard if you grew up with a GBC in your hands.
If you’re into retro handheld games or just love Monsters Inc., this one’s a solid pick. It’s short enough to finish in an afternoon but still feels satisfying.
