Monster Force came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by WayForward. It was part of that wave of GBA titles that tried to bring a console style action game into your hands, with big sprites and colorful, detailed levels. The game puts you in control of a young man named Max, who is part of a team hunting down classic movie monsters that have invaded his world.

You guide Max through side scrolling stages, moving screen by screen to clear out enemies. Your main goal is to defeat the monster boss waiting at the end of each level. The gameplay mixes sword combat with a grappling hook; you use the sword for close encounters and the hook to pull yourself to higher platforms or to stun certain foes. You also collect power ups that enhance your abilities, like increasing your attack strength. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially during boss fights that require specific patterns to overcome. Playing it feels like a quick, challenging scramble through a monster filled carnival.
