Monkey King: Quest For The Sutra is one of those GBC games that feels like it got lost in time—a weird little action-adventure gem based on the classic Chinese legend. You play as Sun Wukong, bouncing around with his staff, smacking demons, and solving simple but satisfying puzzles. The sprites are surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy Color title, and the levels have this old-school charm where you’re constantly poking at suspicious walls or jumping over bottomless pits.
It’s not super deep, but there’s something about the way it blends platforming with light RPG elements—you collect power-ups, unlock new abilities, and the combat actually requires a bit of timing instead of just button mashing. The music’s got that classic chiptune energy too, all bouncy and upbeat. If you’ve got a soft spot for late-era GBC games or just love the Monkey King mythos, it’s a solid way to kill a few hours.
