Momotarou Matsuri was a Japan only release for the Game Boy Advance, coming out in 2000. It was developed by Hudson Soft, the same company behind the Bomberman series. This was early in the GBA's life, a time when developers were still figuring out what the handheld could do, and you see a lot of experimental titles like this one that blended different genres together.

You control Momotarou, the peach boy from Japanese folklore, as he explores a large world map. Your main goal is to travel from village to village, helping people with their problems and gathering a party of animal companions. The gameplay shifts between two main modes. On the world map, you move from screen to screen in an action adventure style, talking to villagers and finding keys to progress. When you enter a combat encounter, the perspective changes to a side view, and you fight using a rapid fire attack system where you mash the button to shoot projectiles at oncoming enemies. The pacing is generally brisk, though some of the boss fights can be surprisingly difficult, requiring quick reflexes to dodge patterns while maintaining your own attack. It feels like a condensed, energetic take on a classic adventure story.
