If you've ever wanted to learn mahjong without the pressure of actual gambling or intimidating arcade cabinets, this GBA version is a solid pick. The tiles have that satisfying chunky pixel art look, and the controls are simple enough—just tap and drag with the D-pad. At first, I kept confusing the bamboo tiles with the circles, but after a few rounds, it clicks.
There’s no fancy story mode or anything, just straight-up classic mahjong with a clean interface. The AI isn’t brutal, so you can take your time figuring out which tiles to discard. I like that it doesn’t rush you—perfect for playing in short bursts or zoning out during a commute. The music’s chill, too, just some light background tunes that don’t get annoying.
It won’t blow your mind if you’re a hardcore mahjong player, but for a portable version? Does the job nicely. You’ll probably recognize it if you’ve seen those old Japanese mahjong sets with the red fives.
