Ever wanted to learn shogi but found it intimidating? This little GBA gem is basically the friendliest way to dive into Japanese chess. You get these cute, chunky pieces (way less scary than the kanji-covered ones in real shogi), and the game actually walks you through moves instead of throwing you into the deep end.
First few minutes, you're just pushing pawns around the grid, but then it clicks—the way pieces promote when they reach the other side, how captured units can drop back onto the board. There's even a caravan mode where you play quick matches against the AI with weird handicaps. Kinda janky by modern standards, but weirdly charming if you're into retro stuff.
Still can't beat the CPU on anything above medium difficulty, though. Those shogi bots don't mess around.
