Minna No Shougi - Shokyuu Hen (japan) Game

Minna no Shougi - Shokyuu Hen is a solid little shogi (Japanese chess) tutor disguised as a Game Boy Color game. The menus are all in Japanese, but if you’ve ever wanted to learn shogi basics without drowning in kanji, this actually does a decent job—the board and pieces are clear, and the tutorial walks you through moves step by step. It’s not flashy, but the AI gives you room to breathe while you’re figuring out how those little gold generals actually move.
First thing you’ll notice? The pieces have their kanji characters, but they’re big enough to read, and the game highlights legal moves when you select one. I kept forgetting which way the silver general could attack until about my fifth match. Still lost, but at least I knew why.
If you’ve got nostalgia for the GBC or just want a no-frills way to practice shogi, this one’s weirdly charming. Just don’t expect online multiplayer or fancy graphics—it’s pure, grid-based tactics.
