About Microsoft Pinball Arcade
Microsoft Pinball Arcade came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, developed by Tarantula Studios and published by Microsoft. It was part of a wave of portable pinball games that tried to capture the feel of real tables on a small screen. This was a time when having a collection of digital pinball machines in your pocket was a pretty novel idea.
You control the flippers, aiming to keep the ball in play and score as many points as possible. The main objective is to complete the goals on each unique table to progress. Signature mechanics include hitting specific ramps and targets to activate multiball, which sends several balls into play at once, and navigating the themed tables based on real Microsoft pinball titles, each with its own layout and rules. The game can be quite fast, and the small screen sometimes makes it tricky to track the ball, especially during chaotic moments. It feels like a quick, challenging test of your timing and precision.
