Metroid: Zero Mission came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was a time when the GBA library was full of ambitious titles reworking older classics, and this was their new version of the original NES Metroid. The game rebuilt that first adventure from the ground up, giving it the visual clarity and tighter controls the series had developed since.

You control Samus Aran, a bounty hunter exploring the planet Zebes. Your main goal is to survive the hostile environment and defeat the space pirates, but the real drive is the exploration. You move through the world screen by screen, shooting doors and enemies while searching for new power-ups like the Morph Ball or Ice Beam. Each new item lets you access previously blocked areas, slowly mapping out the planet. The pacing is deliberate; you will get lost, retrace your steps, and gradually piece together the path forward. After a certain point, the game shifts dramatically, stripping away your powered armor and forcing you to rely on stealth and evasion in a tense new sequence. Navigating the world with such vulnerability, then finally reclaiming your strength, makes the entire journey feel earned and complete.
