About Meta Fight Ex (japan)
Meta Fight EX came out in 1993 for the Game Boy Color, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of early handheld games trying to bring a console-like adventure into your pocket. You don't see many people talk about it now, but it was there, a solid action game for its time.
You control a lone soldier exploring a large, interconnected alien fortress. Your goal is to fight through room after room, clearing each screen of enemies before you can move on. The main mechanics involve switching between a standard gun and a powerful, short-range sword; you also collect key cards to unlock new areas. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush. It feels like a deliberate, sometimes tense crawl through hostile territory.
