Mercs on the Sega Master System is one of those classic arcade shooters where you just grab a gun and go wild. It’s a stripped-down port of the arcade original—no fancy Genesis-exclusive modes here—but it still nails that run-and-gun chaos. You start off mowing down waves of enemies with whatever weapon you can scavenge, and before long, you’re frantically dodging bullets while trying not to waste your limited continues.

The controls are simple, but the screen gets absolutely packed with enemies, so you’ll be sweating by the second stage. It’s not as polished as the Genesis version, but if you’re into old-school shooters that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid time-killer. Just don’t expect to beat it on your first try.
