If you’ve ever wanted a bite-sized Shin Megami Tensei experience on the Game Boy Color, Last Bible II is it. The pixel art’s surprisingly detailed for a GBC title—demons look properly menacing, and the overworld has that classic RPG charm. You start off recruiting monsters (because of course you do) and figuring out which ones actually pull their weight in battle. Protip: don’t get too attached to your early party members; half of them become useless by the second dungeon.
The translation’s solid, though the story’s pretty straightforward—ancient evil, chosen hero, you know the drill. What makes it fun is the demon fusion system, which lets you mash together your ragtag crew into something actually useful. Battles can get grindy, but there’s something satisfying about finally stumbling on a combo that steamrolls enemies. Just don’t expect Persona-level depth—this is a stripped-down, portable take on the formula.
It’s definitely a product of its time, but if you’re into retro RPGs with a monster-collecting twist, this one’s worth digging up.
