About Medarot Cardrobottle - Kuwagata Version (japan)
Medarot Cardrobottle - Kuwagata Version came out in Japan for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Natsume and published by Imagineer. It was part of that late-era GBC wave where developers were really pushing what the hardware could do visually, even as the Game Boy Advance loomed on the horizon. This was one of two versions released, following the common practice of the time to encourage trading between players.
You control a young boy who collects and assembles robotic partners called Medarots from various parts. The main goal is to build your team and compete in turn-based battles against other collectors. The game's signature mechanics involve exploring the world screen by screen to find new parts, then using a card-based system in battles to issue commands. You manage a limited deck of action cards during fights, which dictates your available moves each turn. The pacing is deliberate, with a focus on strategic collection and preparation rather than fast action. It feels like a slow, thoughtful puzzle where you are constantly building and refining your own custom robot.
