Medarot 5 (Kuwagata Version) is one of those classic Game Boy Color RPGs where you collect and customize little robot pals called Medabots—this one’s got the beetle-themed Kuwagata parts, obviously. You start off as the new kid in a weirdly robot-obsessed village, and within minutes you’re scrounging for parts in back alleys and battling other kids in the schoolyard. The turn-based fights feel like a mix of Pokémon and a tactical RPG, except your bot’s arms can literally fall off mid-battle if you’re not careful.
It’s got that late-era GBC charm—bright colors, chunky sprites, and way more dialogue than you’d expect. The translation’s Japanese-only, so unless you’re fluent or really determined, you’ll be mashing A through most of the story. Still, tinkering with your Medabot’s loadout is weirdly satisfying once you figure out which parts actually work together.
Honestly, half the fun is just seeing how ridiculous your robot looks after swapping its head for a toaster or something.
