Medarot 2 Core Kabuto Version came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Natsume. It was part of that early GBA wave where developers were still figuring out how to translate console-style RPGs onto the smaller screen, and this one carried over a lot of the mechanics from its Game Boy predecessor. You play as a kid who gets a transforming robot, a Medarot, and the story kicks off when you have to use it to defend your town from rival collectors and a mysterious organization.

You control your character from a top-down perspective, walking through towns and fields screen by screen. The main goal is to assemble a powerful team of Medarots by collecting parts from battles and customizing their loadouts. Combat is turn-based, but it uses a unique system where you input commands for your left and right arms, head, and legs separately each turn; you have to think about attack ranges, part durability, and which actions will execute first. The game moves at a steady pace, though random encounters can feel frequent in some areas. It feels like a very deliberate puzzle, trying to build the right robot for the right fight.
