About Medarot 2 - Parts Collection (japan)
Medarot 2 - Parts Collection came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Natsume. It was part of that wave of late Game Boy titles that felt like specialized tools for fans, a disc-free expansion for the main Medarot 2 cartridge. You plugged it in when you wanted to focus purely on building your robot collection, separate from the adventure of the core game.
You control a Medafighter managing a roster of customizable robots, or Medarots. The main objective is to acquire new parts by battling other Medarots in a series of isolated encounters. Signature mechanics include the three-part combat system where you assign actions for your Medarot's head, arms, and legs each turn, and the ability to freely swap and mix hundreds of collected components to create new builds. The pacing is methodical, built around repeated fights to farm specific pieces, and the difficulty often depends on how well you've tailored your Medarot to counter an opponent's strategy. It feels like tinkering in a garage, where the satisfaction comes from finally assembling a robot that works exactly as you planned.
