About Medarot 2 - Kuwagata Version (japan)
Medarot 2 - Kuwagata Version came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Natsume and published by Imagineer. It was part of that wave of late 90s monster-collecting RPGs on handhelds, a time when the hardware could finally support detailed sprites and more complex mechanics. This version, alongside its Kabuto counterpart, offered a slightly different roster of Medarots to find, giving players a reason to trade with friends who had the other game.
You control a young boy who, after receiving a stolen Medarot, gets pulled into the world of Robattles. Your main goal is to assemble a team of these customizable robots and compete in tournaments while uncovering a larger conspiracy. The gameplay splits between screen by screen exploration in towns and fields, and turn based battles where you command your Medarot's individual parts (arms, legs, and a medal that acts as its brain). A signature mechanic is the part customization; you are constantly swapping out weapons and armor to find combinations that work against specific opponents. The pace is methodical, with random encounters and a difficulty that requires thoughtful preparation for major fights. Playing it feels like tinkering in a garage, slowly building your perfect machine through trial and error.
