Medarot 2 - Kabuto Version is one of those classic Game Boy Color RPGs that flew under the radar outside Japan. You collect and customize little robots called Medabots, mixing and matching parts like arms, legs, and special attacks—kinda like Pokémon if it had a garage full of spare parts. The Kabuto version gives you a beetle-themed starter (which, honestly, looks way cooler than the Kuwagata one).
First 10 minutes? You’re thrown into schoolyard brawls where your dinky starter bot gets wrecked until you scavenge better parts. The turn-based battles have this weird rock-paper-scissors mechanic for attacks, so there’s actual strategy beyond just mashing buttons. And yeah, the translation’s a bit janky, but the charm’s all there—goofy dialogue, weird side quests, and that sweet, sweet 8-bit soundtrack.
If you’re into retro RPGs with customization and a side of nostalgia, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
