Medabots: Metabee Version came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of games based on anime and toy lines that were pretty common on the handheld. You play as a kid who gets a Medabot, a customizable robot, and the story follows the usual beats of entering tournaments and dealing with a rival group of robbers.

You control your character from a top-down perspective, walking around town and different areas screen by screen. The main goal is to build up your Medabot, Metabee, by winning battles in the Robattle tournaments. The two big mechanics are collecting and swapping out Medaparts; you get new arms, legs, and heads from defeated opponents or shops, each with different stats and special attacks. The other key part is the turn-based combat, where you input a sequence of moves for that turn and then watch the bots execute them simultaneously. The game has a steady pace, not too hard, but it makes you think about your part combinations. It feels like tinkering with a machine until it finally clicks and works just right.
