Mech Platoon came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of developers trying to fit complex PC genres onto the small screen, a time when you'd see all sorts of ambitious experiments in your hands.

You command a squad of four different mechs, each with unique weapons and roles, directing them across grid-based maps to complete objectives. The main goal is to destroy the enemy base while protecting your own, which involves managing resources, building turrets for defense, and constantly micro-managing your units' positions and targets. Two key mechanics are the ability to combine your mechs into a single, more powerful unit for a short time, and the screen-by-screen exploration that reveals the fog of war. The pace is fast and the difficulty can be punishing if you don't keep a close watch on all your units at once. It feels like a tense, constant juggling act where a single misstep can unravel your entire strategy.
