About Maya The Bee And Her Friends
Maya the Bee and Her Friends came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Infogrames. It was part of that wave of licensed games for younger players that filled the handheld's library, based on the familiar cartoon about the little bee and her insect world. You don't see many people talking about it now, but it was definitely on the shelves back then.
You control Maya the bee herself, flying and walking through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to find your lost friends by exploring the garden, which involves a lot of talking to other characters and fetching items for them. The main mechanics are pretty straightforward: you collect pollen from flowers to fill a meter, and you use a spin attack to fend off hostile bugs like hornets. The game is not particularly difficult; the challenge is more about remembering who needs what and navigating the map without getting lost. It feels like a gentle, slow paced adventure made for a lazy afternoon.
