Max Payne on GBA is a wild ride—somehow they crammed that gritty, slow-mo shooter vibe onto a tiny cartridge. You play as this beaten-down cop framed for murder, blasting through mobsters in dark alleys and dingy apartments. The comic-style cutscenes actually work surprisingly well here, even if the faces look a little squished.
Bullet time feels janky at first (this is a GBA port), but once you get the hang of diving sideways while unloading a pistol, it’s stupidly satisfying. Just don’t expect the full console experience—some levels got trimmed, and the voice acting is… well, let’s say “compressed.” Still, pulling off a perfect shootdodge between crates never gets old.
It’s impressive how much mood they packed into those pixelated rain effects.
