I picked up Madagascar (U)(TrashMan) for the Game Boy Advance, a cartridge that seems to have been released in 2005, the same year as the movie. It was published by Activision, which put out a lot of licensed games during that era. This was a time when the GBA library was filled with movie tie-ins, and this one fits right into that category.

You control Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, switching between them to use their specific abilities. The main goal is to escape from the Central Park Zoo and eventually get back to New York from Madagascar. You move screen by screen, punching and kicking through waves of animal control officers and wild lemurs. Each character has a simple special move; Alex can roar to stun enemies, for instance. You also do a lot of platforming, jumping between ledges and climbing vines. The pacing is fairly quick, but some enemy patterns can be frustratingly repetitive. It feels like a straightforward brawler that captures the movie's chaotic energy without demanding too much from the player.
