About Madagascar - Operation Penguin (u)(trashman)

Madagascar: Operation Penguin came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, a time when licensed platformers were common on handhelds. It was published by Activision, and it fits right into that era of straightforward, movie based games you could take anywhere. You don't play as Alex the lion or Marty the zebra here; the focus is entirely on the penguins, specifically Private, who gets his own mission separate from the main film's plot.

You control Private through a series of side scrolling levels, and your main goal is to stop a villain's plan by collecting pieces of a weather controlling device. The gameplay involves a lot of running and jumping across platforms, but you also get to use gadgets. You can deploy a bubblegum bubble to float over gaps or use a fish to stun enemies temporarily. The levels are broken into distinct screens you move between, which makes the exploration feel manageable. The difficulty is fairly gentle, aimed at younger players, though some of the later stages require more precise timing. It feels like a compact, no frills adventure that captures the penguins' mischievous spirit.
