Lunar Legend on GBA is basically a condensed version of the PS1 classic Lunar: Silver Star Story—same heart, just scaled down for handheld. You play as Alex, this kid who dreams of becoming a Dragonmaster (basically the coolest warrior-mage hybrid ever), and the story hits all those classic JRPG beats: small-town hero, ancient prophecies, and a crew of weirdos joining your party along the way.
The sprites are chunky but charming, and they somehow squeezed those gorgeous anime cutscenes onto the tiny screen. Combat’s turn-based but snappy—no random encounters, which is nice—and the magic system has this weirdly satisfying weight to it. Some purists miss the PS1 voice acting, but honestly? The GBA soundtrack still slaps when you’re grinding through dungeons.
If you’ve played the original, it’s a nostalgia trip with fewer loading screens; if you haven’t, it’s a solid way to experience one of the cozier 90s JRPGs without digging out old consoles.
