Lords of the Realm is a turn-based strategy game released in 1994 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by Impressions Games, it is set in medieval Europe during the 13th century. The game simulates a power struggle where the player, as one of several lords, competes to claim the vacant English or German throne through a combination of feudal management and military conquest.

Players control a lord and oversee a territory, managing resources and a population of serfs. The primary objective is to conquer rival lords and unify the kingdom. Gameplay is divided between a strategic turn-based map and real-time tactical battles. On the strategic map, players allocate serfs to tasks such as farming, herding, and construction to produce food, goods, and military units. They must also manage castle construction, using either custom designs or historical blueprints, to fortify their lands.

Progression involves expanding territory and building armies to besiege enemy castles. When armies meet, the game shifts to a real-time tactical mode for battlefield engagements. In these battles, players can command individual units or group them into formations, similar to mechanics found in real-time strategy games. As an alternative, players may opt for a simulated resolution where the computer determines the battle's outcome. The core loop combines economic management, castle building and siege warfare, and direct military command to achieve dominance over the rival factions.
