About Little Nicky
Little Nicky arrived on the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Crawfish Interactive and published by Ubi Soft. It was part of that wave of licensed platformers that filled the portable's library, games you'd often find tucked into a carrying case next to more famous titles. This one was based on the Adam Sandler movie, which gave it a recognizable face but placed it in a crowded field of similar adventures.
You control Nicky, the son of the Devil, sent to Earth to retrieve his two escaped brothers. The game plays out across side scrolling levels where you jump between platforms and punch the various monsters that get in your way. Your main goal is to collect a set of souls, which act like the stars or shines in other games; you need a certain number to unlock new areas and progress. Signature mechanics include using your demonic powers, like a fireball attack for ranged combat and a temporary flying ability to cross wider gaps. The pacing is straightforward, though some enemy placements can feel cheap, leading to trial and error in certain sections. Playing it feels like a competent, if unremarkable, run through a familiar formula.
