About Lion King Iii
I picked up Lion King III for the Game Boy Color when it came out in 2000. It was developed by Dark Technologies and published by THQ, one of many licensed platformers from that era. The game arrived late in the handheld's life, a time when developers were still finding interesting ways to use the limited color palette.
You control Simba through a series of side scrolling levels, fighting hyenas and other creatures with a simple claw attack. Your main goal is to restore peace to the Pride Lands by defeating Scar. The gameplay involves screen by screen exploration, jumping between platforms and occasionally swimming. You collect bugs to earn extra lives and find feathers that grant temporary invincibility. The pacing is methodical, with some tricky jumps that demand precise timing. It feels like a straightforward adventure, a familiar challenge from that period of portable gaming.
