Legend of the River King on GBC is one of those weirdly addictive fishing games where you actually care about catching that next big fish. At first glance, it’s just pixelated water and a tiny rod, but then you realize there’s this whole ecosystem—different fish bite at different times, some spots are better than others, and upgrading your gear actually matters.
The music’s got that classic Game Boy charm, all bouncy and nostalgic, and the tournaments add just enough pressure to keep things interesting. I spent way too long trying to catch this one legendary fish near the waterfall—turns out you need a specific lure, which the game doesn’t tell you until you’ve wasted half an hour. Classic.
If you’ve ever wanted a fishing RPG where the grind is weirdly satisfying, this is it. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time trying to beat your personal best bass record.
