About Lego Racers
I remember picking up LEGO Racers for the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was published by LEGO Media, and it was one of those solid racers that felt right at home on the handheld. The screen was small, the colors were bright, and it fit perfectly in that era of portable gaming before everything went 3D.
You control a LEGO minifigure driver in a series of races across different themed tracks. The main goal is to win each cup by finishing first, which unlocks new vehicles and parts. A key mechanic is building your own car from a selection of bricks before each race, letting you tweak its handling and speed. During the race, you can pick up power-ups scattered on the track; these give you temporary advantages like a speed boost or a weapon to slow down opponents. The races are fast and the AI can be surprisingly aggressive, making it a challenge to stay in front. It feels like a quick, chaotic scramble from start to finish.
