Konjiki no Gashbell!! Makai no Bookmark is one of those GBA RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. It’s based on the Zatch Bell anime, but don’t let that scare you off if you’re not a fan. The combat’s actually pretty solid, mixing turn-based strategy with this weird card system where you pick spells for Gash to cast. At first, I kept losing because I didn’t realize some spells combo better than others (hint: don’t just spam the strongest attack).

The sprites are chunky and colorful, exactly what you’d expect from a mid-2000s GBA game. There’s a weird charm to how the characters bounce around during battles. And yeah, it’s Japanese-only, but if you’ve played a few RPGs before, you can muddle through—most of the menus are icons anyway. Just expect a lot of trial and error with spell setups.

It’s not groundbreaking, but if you’re into obscure GBA titles or just want something different from the usual Pokémon clones, this one’s a decent time-waster.
