About Kong - The Animated Series (u)(trashman)
I picked up Kong: The Animated Series for the Game Boy Advance, a 2002 release from developer Planet Interactive. It was part of that wave of licensed games that tried to capture the show's energy on the small screen. You control Kong himself, a large ape navigating side scrolling levels filled with smaller enemies and environmental obstacles. The main goal is straightforward: get from the start of the stage to the finish, usually by running, jumping, and punching your way through anything in your path.
You primarily move screen by screen, dealing with enemies that respawn if you backtrack. A key mechanic is using Kong's strength to pick up certain items and throw them at foes or to break open crates. Some levels introduce vehicle sections, like a mine cart ride, which changes the pace but often feels clunky. The platforming can be imprecise, and the difficulty comes more from awkward enemy placement than clever design. Playing it feels like wrestling with the controls as much as the on screen challenges.
