Konchuu Hakase 3 is one of those weirdly charming Game Boy Color titles that never left Japan—basically, you're a bug professor catching, studying, and battling insects. The pixel art bugs are surprisingly detailed for a GBC game, and there's something oddly satisfying about sneaking up on a stag beetle with your net.
At first, it feels like a mix of Pokémon and Animal Crossing, but with way more antennae. You wander through forests and fields, shaking bushes to see what crawls out, then either add it to your collection or pit it against other bugs in turn-based fights. The battles are simple but weirdly strategic—some bugs hit hard but move slow, others dodge like crazy but barely scratch opponents.
It's definitely niche, but if you ever spent hours flipping rocks as a kid to see what was underneath, this game nails that vibe. Just don't expect the grasshopper you caught to evolve into a dragon.
